Nearly three months ago I upped and moved from Ontario, Canada to move across the ocean to Lisboa, Portugal. Canada was never really a home to me, as I was just visitor for nearly 4 years. I'm an Americana in Portugal now. This place with all of it's cultural differences, language, and interesting mix of Old World meets modern feels more like home than any place I've lived aside from my hometown of Portland, Oregon.
The two have some similarities such as the terrain (it's hilly here, as in real hills, not those silly "speed bumps" they call hills in the middle of the US and Canada), the ocean being so close (albeit much closer than in Portland) creates a climate that reminds me of Portland's except it's much warmer (though who can tell with the crazy warm summer going on across the US... If I get to see lots of rain for 10 months starting in the middle of September, I'll be happy as a pig in... mud), and the smell of the air is very fresh and reminds me of home.
I've said all this before in a post right after I moved here. I however, didn't have the resources (patience) to show the city I now call home.
Now you can see a small taste of one of the reasons why I've set my feet in the realm of the Portuguese.
I think I'll stay awhile.
